about

Subtitle: Benni's Choice. The first in a series of Modern Folk digital-only archive releases compiling highlights from MF mastermind Josh Moss' 40-something albums. Like the Grateful Dead album of which the compilation's title alludes to, History Vol. 1 is not a particularly representative overview of the artist's oeuvre but rather a highly-personal cherry-picked selection of traditional American folk and blues covers chosen by Josh's friend Ben Telfer. The Basement Tapes meets Like Flies on Sherbert.

Recorded 2011 - 2016.

All the songs presented here are based on traditional American folk and blues songs, the histories of which extend beyond known composers, except "Whiskey Headed Woman", written by Tommy McClennan, "Shake Sugaree", written by Elizabeth Cotten, and "Boogie Chillin", written by John Lee Hooker. Hopefully, another link in the chain.
